Hiko-A-Mon

In 2008 when Hiko-A-Mon opened its doors it brought a new colorful contemporary design to the scenic Westport Village. Customers are immediately greeted with a burst of vibrant green as they enter the front door and at once are interested to see what lies behind the beautiful glass door. Inside the restaurant the customer is welcomed into a bright and airy dining experience with surprises at every turn. At the front of the restaurant is a semi private dining area that seats more than a dozen. However, this is not a typical dining area; it is designed for customers to feel as though they are dining at a traditional Japanese table on the floor without the inconvenience of doing so. To create this feeling, the dining table is sunk into the floor where diners sit on the floor with their feet hanging below giving them the feeling of dining at floor level. The space is made that much more intimate by the wood trellis ceiling.

The space planning of the restaurant encompasses both booth seating as well as traditional table seating. The juxtaposition of dark wood and bright orange upholstery provides a hip and intimate environment for the diner. In the back of the restaurant is a second private dining area featuring a mix of orange paint and textured wallpaper to create a more formal and private experience. The design of the restaurant also features a beautiful tropical fish tank and a lit glass wine rack to divide the sushi bar from the main dining area. The vibrant green from the entrance also re-appears in the entrance to the restrooms; which combined with the teal and orange throughout the restaurant creates a very colorful, contemporary, and inviting space for diners unlike any other in town.
